THE DETAILS:

The 1950 Cadillac Series 75 Imperial Limousine epitomized post-war American luxury and design. Here’s an overview of its history and specifications:

History and Design:

In 1950, Cadillac introduced an all-new post-war body for the Series 75, aligning its design with the rest of the Cadillac lineup for the first time since 1941. This model featured six-window styling and a “high-headroom” limousine appearance, catering to the luxury-class market. The seven-passenger sedan and Imperial limousine included jump seats to accommodate additional passengers.

Specifications:

  •   Engine: The Series 75 was powered by a 5.4-liter (331 cubic inches) overhead valve V8 engine, producing 160 horsepower at 3,800 RPM and 312 lb-ft of torque at 1,800 RPM. This engine featured a Carter two-barrel carburetor and a compression ratio of 7.5:1.

  •   Transmission: A 3-speed manual transmission was standard, with the Hydra-Matic automatic transmission available as an option.

  •   Dimensions:

     •   Wheelbase: 146.75 inches

     •   Length: 236.6 inches (approximately 6010 mm)

     •   Width: 80.1 inches (approximately 2035 mm)

     •   Height: 64.1 inches (approximately 1627 mm)

     •   Curb Weight: Approximately 4,553 lbs (2,065 kg)

  •   Performance: The V8 engine allowed the limousine to achieve respectable performance for its class, with smooth acceleration and a top speed exceeding 100 mph.

  •   Interior Features: The Imperial Limousine was equipped with luxurious amenities, including power windows as standard equipment, plush upholstery, and ample seating for up to seven passengers, thanks to the inclusion of jump seats.

  •   Production Numbers and Pricing: In 1950, Cadillac produced 743 units of the Imperial Sedan, each priced at nearly $5,000. Additionally, 716 examples of the seven-passenger sedan were built, priced at $4,770.

The 1950 Cadillac Series 75 Imperial Limousine remains a symbol of mid-20th-century luxury and craftsmanship, reflecting Cadillac’s commitment to elegance and performance during that era.
